Music
At St Christopher’s Primary School, we follow the Primary Knowledge Curriculum (PKC) for Music. Our intent is to ensure pupils learn about a wide range of genres through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, and composing—gaining a deep conceptual understanding of the subject while experiencing music in diverse ways.
Our Music Curriculum:
- Developing Curiosity & Musical Vocabulary: We aim to nurture a lifelong curiosity for music, giving pupils the tools and specialised vocabulary to express informed opinions. Children learn to evaluate various genres with respect, empathy, and open-mindedness.
- Performance & Confidence: Building self-assurance is a core pillar of our music provision. Pupils are given regular opportunities to perform both individually and in groups, developing their confidence and creative expression over time.
- Appreciation & Historical Context: Children are exposed to works by historical and contemporary musical masters across diverse cultures. Lessons help pupils connect musical movements to broader historical and cultural contexts.
We encourage the love of music through regular use of music throughout the school day including collective worship, lesson time and our chosen music support 'Rocksteady' where the children have time to be involved in a rock band and perform to their friends and family.
