Science

At St Christopher’s Primary School, we deliver the Primary Knowledge Curriculum (PKC) for Science, designed to help pupils understand the world through a scientific lens. Our high-quality curriculum covers and extends beyond the National Curriculum across biology, chemistry, and physics, equipping pupils with the foundational knowledge, methods, and processes vital to understanding natural phenomena and the world's future sustainability.

Key Features of Our Science Curriculum:

  • Progressive Knowledge Building: Subject content is revisited throughout the primary years, allowing pupils to secure and build upon foundational concepts over time. As children progress, their understanding deepens—from basic concepts like naming parts of the human body to exploring complex systems such as muscular, circulatory, and nervous functions, forces in nature, ecosystems, and space.
  • Knowledge-First Scientific Enquiry: Substantive scientific knowledge is explicitly taught before pupils carry out investigations. This ensures children can make informed observations, test theories, and execute enquiry skills—including observing over time, pattern seeking, classifying, fair testing, and secondary research.
  • Essential Data & Analysis Skills: Pupils develop core practical skills to apply across new contexts, including gathering information, recording and graphing data, and interpreting findings to draw rational explanations.
  • Historical & Real-World Context: Children learn about influential figures who have made significant contributions to science, as well as the ongoing role science plays in solving real-world challenges and maintaining life on Earth.

Our goal is to foster a sense of wonder, excite curiosity, and encourage critical thinking—preparing pupils to transition to secondary education with passion, confidence, and a desire for discovery.
