Physical Education (PE)
At St Christopher’s Primary School, our vision is to ensure every child has access to a high-quality, inclusive physical education curriculum that inspires a lifelong love of sport and physical activity. We develop physical literacy for pupils of all abilities—embedding physical, social, cognitive, and emotional learning to build the foundations of a healthy, active lifestyle.
Our Physical Education Curriculum:
- Complete PE Scheme: We utilise the Youth Sport Trust-approved Complete PE curriculum to deliver structured, progressive sequences of learning. This ensures children remain physically active for sustained periods while developing key personal qualities—such as resilience, teamwork, and self-regulation—that transfer into the wider classroom.
- Broad Curriculum Coverage: Pupils experience a broad range of activities, taking part in Games, Gymnastics, Dance, Outdoor Adventurous Activity (OAA), Athletics, and Swimming.
- Progressive Skill Development: In the early years and Key Stage 1, children focus on core fundamental movement skills—such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, striking, and creative expression. As they progress through Key Stage 2, these foundations are applied to complex individual tasks, team games, and tactical play.
- Competitive Opportunities: As part of our local Forest Heath Schools Sports Partnership, we provide pupils with opportunities to participate in a wide variety of competitive inter-school events and festivals—ranging from traditional team sports like football to activities like cheerleading—fostering sportsmanship, pride, and personal achievement.
